National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month
February has been declared National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month by President Obama. Can you recognize an unhealthy teen relationship? Do you know how to best help a friend, son or daughter who's in a troublesome partnership, at home or away at college?

If you're hosting a party, remember that 21 is the legal drinking age. Don't be a party to underage drinking. Parents, the alcohol advertisements during the game can be a good teachable moment; you and your children can talk later about what they thought about them and you can discuss the real dangers of underage drinking.
Great American Smoke Out
Smoking and smokeless tobacco use are usually initiated during adolescence. SADD chapters across the nation are marking this as Wipe Out Smoking Month, and on Nov. 17, the American Cancer Society marks the 36th Great American Smokeout by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.

Update to Virginia's Social Host Law concerning underage drinking went into effect on JULY 1, 2011
Most adults know it is illegal to provide alcohol to minors, but as of July 1, adults have another reason to think twice before furnishing alcoholic beverages to underage youth.
